Today we mark the passing of a true statesman and servant of Kansas. Steve Morris, 79, passed away peacefully at his home.
Steve served in the Kansas Senate from 1993 to 2013, and as Senate President from 2005 to 2013.
He brought a commitment to collaboration, a deep respect for the legislative process, and an unwavering dedication to the people of our state.
Among his many accomplishments: driving the passage of a landmark transportation plan, advancing expanded-gaming legislation, supporting the development of the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility in Manhattan, and guiding increased funding for public education during a pivotal 2005 session.
Steve’s path to public service began with his education at Hugoton High School and later Kansas State University, and his service as a U.S. Air Force pilot before entering the Legislature.
Beyond his titles and legislation, Steve will be remembered for his character: a loyal friend and mentor, a man of integrity, and one who sought to serve more than to be served.
We invite all who knew and respected Steve to join us in honoring his life and legacy. Further details of the memorial celebration will be shared when available.
