Colby Spencer

Colby Spencer, age 38, passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2025. He was born on July 2, 1987, in Ulysses, Kansas, the son of Garry and Merlene (Nickerson) Spencer.

Colby was a lifetime resident of Grant County. While in high school, he was involved in FFA and graduated from Ulysses High School in 2006. In 2011, Colby was involved in a four-wheeler accident. From August until April, he was in rehabilitation at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska. As an inpatient and then outpatient he spent many rehab hours playing Bingo, cards and working on puzzles. His family credits them for saving his life. After he got home, Colby helped his family with the pigs and cattle, drove tractor and combine, hauled fuel, and helped move equipment to the next field. Colby also spent time at the local convenience stores where he enjoyed visiting with people and drinking cokes. He also enjoyed reading and watching videos on YouTube. Family was important to Colby. He had a generous heart and was always looking for a good deal to buy gifts for them. Spending time and sharing a meal with his grandparents, Jr. and Jessie, was something he treasured. His niece and nephews were the light of his life, and he loved them dearly. He thought of them often and enjoyed spending time, talking, and playing with them.

Colby is survived by his parents, Garry and Merlene of Ulysses; brother, Levi Spencer and wife Rachel of Ulysses; sister, Mandy Moral and husband Bryce of Wichita; niece and nephews, Rebecca and Ian Spencer and Liam and Luke Moral; grandparents, Merle Jr. and Jessie Nickerson of Ulysses and Kenny and Helen Henry of Yuma, Colorado; aunts and uncles, Marlene and Steve Johnson of Ulysses, Terri and Jim Henry of Plains, Montana, Kenneth and Linda Spencer of Eckley, Colorado, Kathy and Fred Buckley of Junction City, Kansas, Joy and Brian Brooks of Mesquite, Texas, Michael John Spencer (deceased), Cecelia and Bill Van Buskirk of Bowie, Maryland, Beryl Henry of Yuma, Colorado, and Kendra and Kevin Fawcett of Springdale, Arkansas; and extended family.
