Darrell Dean Young

Darrell Dean Young, age 72, died Friday, October 3, 2025, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. He was born on October 17, 1952, in Iola, Kansas, the son of Clayton D. and Marriannah (Harris) Young.

Darrell, along with his family, moved to Satanta, Kansas, in 1958 and then to the Cities Service camp. He attended Red Rock Elementary and went on to graduate from Satanta High School in 1971. He attended Pittsburgh Vocational School and then went on to work for Cities Service Gas Company, retiring from Southern Star Central Gas Company. After retirement, Darrell went on to work as an Inspector for Kern River. This adventure took him to many different places.

One of Darrell’s many interests was cars. He especially enjoyed Corvettes. Throughout the years, he owned several Corvettes and a 1964 Chevy. He enjoyed spending time working on his vehicles. Darrell enjoyed attending estate sales, which yielded a diverse range of collections. Darrell also had a heart for the Christmas Shoebox program, which he donated to every year. He always made sure to call everyone on their birthdays. Darrell loved his dog Whiskers. Darrell was a member of AA. His sobriety was important to him, and he was an advocate for being and remaining sober.

Darrell is survived by his daughter, Belinda Gluntz of Garden City, Kansas; brothers, Ronnie Young and wife Nancy, and Donnie Young and wife Karen, all of Ulysses; nieces and nephews, Jamie Burdette, Todd Young, Tim Young, Inga Owens, Nicole Alexander, and Danielle Cerbe; and 10 great-nieces and nephews and one great-great-nephew plus many other family and friends.

Darrell is preceded in death by his parents Clayton and Marriannah Young, and nephew Christopher Young.

  

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Ulysses, Kansas, with Pastor Steve Swann, Jr. officiating and will be live streamed on Garnand Funeral Home Facebook page. Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, October 10, 2025, from 2:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.
