Rex K. Palmer, age 91, passed away Wednesday evening, August 13, 2025, at his Meade, Kansas, residence.
He was born July 21, 1934, at Paris, Texas, the son of Leon and Onita (Hignight) Palmer. As a young boy he attended school in Shamrock, Texas, graduating from Shamrock High School.
On November 2, 1963, he married Diane Malone at Copeland, Kansas. After their marriage, they both worked for Panhandle Eastern. In 1967, they moved to a farm south of Plains, Kansas, where he farmed and continued to work for Panhandle Eastern until 1975. They owned and operated Palmer Trucking for many years, retiring in 2007.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge, Shriner’s, and had served on many different Meade County Boards. He enjoyed reading and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Diane of Meade; his children, Resi (Mick) Ross of Meade, Rollie (Ricci) Palmer of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Tawanna (Bryan) Groth, Rick (Holly) LeBrun, and George (Temple) Dickerson; two brothers, Conny Palmer of Shamrock, Texas, and John Palmer of Lake Eufaula, Oklahoma; a sister, Nekita Mercer of Richardson, Texas; four grandchildren, Mattie (Luke) Huelskamp, Chayse (Elizabeth) Ross, Grace Karlin, and Mason Karlin; four great-grandchildren, Rexten, Miley, Hadley, and Dahlia.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two children, Cindy Palme, and Kenny Dickerson; and a sister, Wanda Jo Palmer.
In accordance to his request, cremation has taken place. Memorial graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 29, 2025, at the Copeland Cemetery, Copeland, Kansas. Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade, has been entrusted with arrangements.
The family would welcome memorials to the Shriner’s Hospital in care of the funeral home.
