Thursday evening storms resulted in multiple alarms for multiple Fire Departments in the western portion of Texas County.
911 calls of grass fires began coming into the Dispatch Center at 7:20pm for fires started by extreme lightening conditions. Firefighters and Units from Yarbrough, Hough, Goodwell, and Guymon began responding. As units continued to the original fire, other fires in the same general area were reported. This required additional units from Texhoma to assist.
A total of 5 fires occurred in a radius area of 20 miles near the Four Corner area on Hwy 412. Approximately 120 acres burned with the largest fire being at Rd. E and Mile 10 with 40 acres. Nearly 19 Fire units spread across the northwestern portion of Texas County contained all these fires. Fire crews were out for approximately 4 hours extinguishing fires until the storm systems traveled south out of the area. No injuries were reported with no structures threatened.
