Heat Helps Kansas Crops

KSCB News - July 20, 2010 12:00 am

A new report says last week’s hot weather

in Kansas allowed the state’s corn, soybean and cotton crops to

make significant progress.

Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service, in its report Monday,

also said the winter wheat harvest is 99 percent complete. Cutting

was still under way in the northwestern corner, with 91 percent of

the wheat harvested.

The agency rated corn condition as 13 percent excellent, 57

percent good and 23 percent fair. About 7 percent is in poor to

very poor condition.

About 76 percent of the corn crop has reached the silking stage,

while 39 percent of the soybean crop is now in bloom.
