The City of Liberal invites residents and visitors to a ribbon cutting celebration for the new “Dorothy’s Slipper Slide” attraction. The event is scheduled from 3:00-4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 11th, 2025 at the Tourist Information Center, 1 Yellow Brick Road.
“Dorothy’s Slipper Slide” is a 10-foot tall slide modeled after Dorothy Gale’s famous ruby red slippers that will be located outside Liberal’s Tourist Information Center. The slide provides visitors with an interactive roadside attraction experience and helps draw travelers on the Highway 54 corridor into the Visitor Information Center, Dorothy’s House & the Land of Oz, and the Coronado Museum. The slide’s size supports child and adult users while providing a stellar photo opportunity for visitors.
Event attendees will be able to enjoy the ribbon cutting ceremony, on-site activities, prize drawings, and food. There will be live performances by the Liberal Recreation Department’s Dance Program, along with a visit from dogs available for adoption at the Liberal Animal Shelter. Attendees are encouraged to visit Dorothy’s House and the Coronado Museum before ending the evening with a free outdoor movie screening at the museum after sunset.
“Dorothy’s Slipper Slide” is a project funded in part by Kansas Tourism’s Attraction Development Grant and local transient guest tax revenues.
