Rodney Paul Urwin

Rodney Paul Urwin, aged 71, passed away at his home in Liberal, Kansas, on Friday, June 27, 2025. He was born on November 4, 1953, in Dodge City, Kansas, to Lynn Austin and Mary Frances (Gechter) Urwin.

On January 1, 1996, Rodney married Gwendolyn Gay (McAdams) Urwin in Liberal, Kansas. A devoted family man, he cherished the time spent with his children and grandchildren.

Rodney proudly served as a U.S. Army Veteran, with notable service in Germany. He was an active member of his community and dedicated his career to law enforcement, having retired from the Liberal Police Department, where he found great fulfillment in his role.

Among his many hobbies, Rodney enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and crafting his beer, wines, and sodas.

He is survived by his son, Kenneth Urwin, and wife Peggy of Brantford, Ontario, Canada; his daughter, Mariya Smith, and husband Rob of Satanta, Kansas; and his brother, Carol Urwin, and wife Theresa of Shelby Township, Michigan. Rodney also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends.

Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Gwendlyn Urwin, his brother Robert (Bob) Anderson, and his niece Stephanie Urwin.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at 10:30 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Liberal, Kansas. A graveside service will take place on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 11 AM at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Fort Dodge, Kansas.

Rodney will be deeply missed by all who knew him and remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, and unwavering love for his family.
