Rainbow Players of Liberal will present 4 performances of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music”. Performances will be on July 10th, 11th, and 12th, at 7:30 pm with a matinee on July 13th at 3:00 pm. The musical will take place in the Cliff and Irene Pepper Showcase Theater on the campus of Seward County Community College. Doors will open 30 minutes prior to each performance.
The Sound of Music is based on the 1949 memoir of Maria von Trapp, The Story of the Trapp Family Singers. Set in Austria on the eve of the Anschluss in 1938, the musical tells the story of Maria, who takes a job as governess to a large family while she decides whether to become a nun. She falls in love with the children, and eventually their widowed father, Captain von Trapp. He is ordered to accept a commission in the German Navy, but he opposes the Nazis. He and Maria decide on a plan to flee Austria with the children. Many songs from the musical have become standards, including “Do-Re-Mi”, “My Favorite Things”, “Edelweiss”, “Climb Ev’ry Mountain”, and the title song “The Sound of Music”.
Tickets at $15 for adults, with Seniors 65 and over and children’s tickets $10. Tickets can be purchased at the door, or through the Rainbow Players Facebook page or through the following link:
