KU program seeks to help Kansas oil, gas producers

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) – A program at the University of Kansas

works to use innovations to help improve the way independenct oil

producers in the state get their product.

The Tertiary Oil Recovery Project at the university helps the

state’s oil industry, which, unlike major oil-producing states

likes Alaska and Texas, doesn’t include large oil companies tapping

the resources.

According to the Kansas Independent Oil and Gas Association, the

state has more than 2,100 licensed producers contributing to a $6.3

billion industry.

Jeremy Viscomi, director of technology transfer for the

univeristy’s program, said the idea is to bring the latest

innovations to the companies themselves, from within the university

and other sources.
