The Liberal City Commission met Tuesday evening and awarded the Doll Addition RHID bid to French Construction in the amount of $1,439,755.00.
The City of Liberal has been in talks with the Air Products Helium Team for close to a year regarding the purchase of land south of the Air Museum. The survey and appraisal have been completed. Commissioners tabled the Letter of Intent from Air Products Helium Team to purchase a total of 2.94 acres until the next meeting.
The Commission gave approval for the purchase of Path Lighting from First Light Technologies to include Country Club Park, South Blue Bonnet Park, and Mahuron Park for an amount not to exceed $348,000.00, to be funded by the Streets, Drainage, and Capital Improvement portion of the One Cent Sales Tax. Also approved was the McCray Park lighting for an amount not to exceed $52,000.00 to be funded by the Crime Prevention portion of the One Cent Sales Tax.
Commissioners gave approval to adding a parallel taxiway to the crosswind runway at the Liberal Airport. The total project cost estimate is $6,353,000. The FAA will pay 95%, and the City will pay 5%, which amounts to $317,650. This will be less if the City receives an extra grant from the Build Kansas Fund.
Purchased for the Fire Department was a set of Genesis rescue tools & chargers from Emergency Fire Equipment in the amount of $48,948.00. The Commission gave acceptance of the quote from INA Alert for the installation of door access control systems and entered into a contract with INA Alert for this project, with a total amount not to exceed $170,000.00.
The Commissioners approved Utility Billing waivers for Stepping Stone Shelter in the amount of $6,779.75, with the understanding that City may have an additional $1,500 in final
approvals before operational funding arrives in September.
