Janet Fay Mongold

Janet Fay Mongold, 65, of Liberal, Kansas, peacefully passed away on June 15, 2025, at home surrounded by her loved ones.

Janet was born on May 18, 1960, in Liberal, Kansas, to Alvis and Esther (Shultz) Springmeyer. She graduated from Tyrone High School with the class of 1978. In 1979, she married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Richard Mongold, beginning a lifelong journey filled with love, partnership, and devotion.

Janet worked for Weatherford for quite a while and explored several other opportunities throughout her life. Regardless of the role, she brought dedication, warmth, and a natural ability to connect with others. In time, she chose to focus on what mattered most-her family-becoming a stay-at-home wife, mom and, later, a proud and loving grandmother.

Her daughter, Kenya Lynn, born on January 14, 1988, was the center of her world. Later, her two grandsons, Aiden Kayne and Evan Lee Darbyshire, became the lights of her life. Her love for them was endless, and her presence in their lives was full of laughter, hugs, and unwavering support.

Janet was known for her infectious laughter and her ability to get along with absolutely anyone. She loved to dance with her one and only, Richard, especially when surrounded by family and friends. She enjoyed the quiet challenge of crossword puzzles and had a well-known soft spot for Sonic hamburgers and ice-cold Cokes-always with extra ice.

She is survived by her loving husband, Richard Mongold; her daughter, Kenya Lynn (Felipe) Darbyshire; and her grandsons, Aiden Kayne and Evan Lee Darbyshire, all of Straight, Oklahoma. She is also survived by her brother, Karl Springmeyer of Tyrone, Oklahoma; her sisters, Kim (Tommy) Painter of Buffalo, Oklahoma, and Vicki (Steve) Austin of Liberal, Kansas; her brother-in-law, Mike (Julie) Mongold of Colwich, Kansas; and many nieces, nephews and cousins who loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvis and Esther Springmeyer; her stepfather, Ed Brown; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents who no doubt welcomed her home with open arms.

As per Janet’s wishes, cremation has taken place.

Janet’s memory will live on through the love she shared, the laughter she inspired, and the many small, beautiful moments that made her so deeply cherished.
Miller Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
