Deborah Mae “Debbie” Kulow

Deborah Mae “Debbie” Kulow, 64, of Tyrone, Oklahoma, passed away on Monday, May 12, 2025, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, Kansas.

Debbie was born on July 15, 1960, in Liberal, Kansas, to Robert “Bob” Wade and Vinnie Lorene “Peewee” (Mongold) Hickey. From a young age, Debbie was known for her kind heart and deep love for her family. She married the love of her life, Harold Kulow, on August 8, 1977.

She attended Tyrone High School and later dedicated her life to caring for others, working for many years as a CNA at Southwest Medical Center, Wheatridge Park Care, and Protection Valley Manor Nursing Home. Her compassion extended far beyond the workplace—Debbie was willing to help anyone out who needed it. She also worked as a waitress at Mr. Breakfast, Kings BBQ, and the Log Cabin Corner Café in Laverne, Oklahoma, and as a secretary at Liberal Gasket.

Debbie had a creative spirit. She loved planting flowers, crafting, ceramics, and sewing, often gifting her handmade treasures to friends and family. She especially cherished time spent playing cards with loved ones. She loved any time she got to spend with her siblings and her many cousins. Music and reading were other things she always enjoyed. Most of all she enjoyed watching her grandson play all his sports and her granddaughter at her dance recitals.

Debbie was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Her greatest joy came from her family, and she was endlessly proud of her children and grandchildren.

Debbie is survived by her husband, Harold Kulow of Tyrone, OK; her son, Jeremy Kulow of Tyrone, OK; her daughter, Kristina and spouse Thurman Brown of Liberal, KS; two grandchildren, Marquis Brown and Kathryn Brown of Liberal, KS; two brothers, Mike Hickey of Des Moines, IA, and Alan and spouse Marci Hickey of Ponca City, OK; two sisters, Teresa and spouse Mike Kelly of Durant, OK, and Martha “Marty” Hickey of Kingfisher, OK; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, David Hickey; her nephews Jason Hickey, Kevin Kelly, and Jeremiah Hickey.
