Steve Eck to Leave Cowley for Hutchinson

KSCB News - March 16, 2009 12:00 am

No one was sure if the rumors swirling around late last week that Steve Eck may leave Cowley County for Hutchinson Community College had any validity to them. However, they are appearing to be true on Monday as a source close to KSCB and the Hutchinson News are reporting that Eck will become the next head coach of the Hutchinson Blue Dragons. The Hutch News is reporting that Hutchinson has scheduled a press conference for Wednesday at noon to announce Eck as they next new men’s basketball coach. Eck will replace Ryan Swanson, who resigned last week. Swanson coached for three seasons for the Blue Dragons. Eck coached at Cowley for two seasons taking them to the Region VI Championship game two years in a row, losing both to Seward County in 2008 and Garden City this season. Eck has also coached at Butler County, and Redlands, Oklahoma, where he won the NJCAA Division II National Championship back in 2002. Hutchinson athletic director Randy Stange has refused to comment on the story.
