The Liberal Police Department is alerting the public to a phone scam currently targeting members of our community.

Several individuals have reported receiving phone calls from someone claiming to be Deputy Fenn with the Seward County Sheriff’s Department. This includes “spoofing” the telephone number that appears to come from the Sheriff’s Department or local Law Enforcement.  The caller tells the victim they have missed a court date.  THIS IS A SCAM. The goal of the caller is to illicitly obtain money from unsuspecting victims by pressuring them to pay a fraudulent bond fee over the phone.
The public is reminded that law enforcement will never call individuals to collect bond money or demand payment over the phone. If you receive such a call, do not provide any personal or financial information, and hang up immediately.
