Gloria Mary Gamache

Gloria Mary Gamache (née Deschaine), 94, of Ulysses, Kansas, died at the Western Prairie Senior Living Community on April 29, 2025. She was born in Millinocket, Maine, on January 8, 1931, to parents Pierre “Ned” and Leona Deschaine. In her early years, she moved to Waterville, Maine, with her parents and siblings Claude, Donald, Roland, and Theresa. She met and married her husband Lionel Everet (Lee E.) Gamache after the end of World War II. Gloria and Lee welcomed a daughter, Deborah Ann, born in 1951.

In the mid-1950s, Gloria moved with her husband and daughter to Amarillo, Texas, where she lived for most of her life. She worked for many years at Leffler’s Restaurant in Amarillo. Work she remembered fondly as making people happy by providing good food and good service. In 1967 her son, Lionel was born.

In the late 1960s, she joined Alanon, which became a huge part of her life. She sponsored many people over the years, and Alanon became the foundation of her spiritual life. She loved helping and loving people. She had a talent for making people feel loved.

She was a great cook and baker. She was famous for her spaghetti. She loved music and dancing, and she loved looking out into her garden, talking to God, and watching the butterflies and birds. She spent many hours on the phone and in person helping people by spreading the Alanon message.

Gloria is preceded in death by her husband Lee and daughter Deborah. She is survived by her son, Lionel (Susan); grandsons Johnny Talbert (Jennifer) and Joshua Talbert (Fina); and granddaughter Olivia (Eleni).

Gloria was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and a beautiful soul. She will be missed always.
