Kansas Wheat Crop Projected Down 5 Percent

KSCB News - June 10, 2010 12:00 am

A new government forecast says the 2010 Kansas harvest will be almost 353 million bushels.

Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service said its forecast is up 2 percent from last month’s forecast, but down 5 percent compared with last year’s crop.

Kansas farmers are cutting 600,000 fewer acres than last season with just 8.2 million acres put into production.

That is driving down the anticipated harvest even though the anticipated yield of 43 bushels an acre is up 1 percent from last year’s final yield.
