Candidate Drops Out Of 1st Dist. Congressional Race

KSCB News - June 9, 2010 12:00 am

Monte Shadwick, Republican candidate for Congress in Kansas’ First Congressional District, made the announcement today that he is withdrawing his bid for the First District Congressional seat and is endorsing fellow Salinan Republican Tracey Mann.

“The decision to withdraw from this race is a very difficult one for my family and me. We are grateful for the friends, family and contributors who have given their time, resources and ideas on behalf of our effort. I want to thank all of my supporters for their dedication and willingness to go above and beyond in support of our campaign. It is because of these very loyal supporters that this decision to withdraw is so difficult,” said Shadwick.

“I remain strongly committed to the cause for which we have worked so hard. I entered this race because, like many Kansans, I am frustrated with the direction our country is headed. I believe that we must elect a representative who will go to Washington D.C. and help change that direction. Because of this belief, I am supporting Tracey Mann in his bid for the First District Congressional seat. Tracey is committed to being a solution-minded leader that will work hard to bring change to the political shortsightedness exhibited on Capitol Hill. He understands that we need to fight for a limited, efficient and accountable federal government – one that yields results not deficits,” said Shadwick.

Shadwick entered the race last July making him one of seven Republican candidates vying for the Republican nomination to replace Jerry Moran who is running for the United States Senate.

“It is a tremendous honor to have the endorsement of former Salina Mayor Monte Shadwick. As a public servant, main street business owner, and elected official, Monte has proven what it means to be an involved civic leader. His endorsement means all the more knowing the years he spent working on behalf of Kansans in Congressman Jerry Moran’s office,” said Mann.
