Blast in Texas Panhandle Kills Two and Injures Three

KSCB News - June 9, 2010 12:00 am

DARROUZETT, Texas (AP) – A Texas Panhandle sheriff says two

people are dead from a gas pipeline explosion.

Lipscomb County Sheriff James Robertson said in a news release

Tuesday that the men were killed shortly after the natural gas

pipeline blew in a remote part of the region.

One man was injured and taken by helicopter to a hospital in

Oklahoma City. Two others working near the explosion escaped with

what are believed to be nonlife-threatening injuries.

The five men were moving clay from a pit near the pipeline when

a bulldozer struck it, causing the explosion.

Vickie Nelson of the Lipscomb County Sheriff’s Office said the

blast occurred around 4 p.m. near the small town of Darrouzett, a

few miles from the Oklahoma line.
