Two Local Teens Receive Heroism Award

KSCB News - March 11, 2009 12:00 am

At last nights City Commission meeting, 17 year olds Taylor Seigrist, and Kevin Archer were recognized by the Liberal City Commission and the Liberal Fire Department for their selfless act of bravery. The two young men were awarded the Heroism Award from the City and Fire Department for their quick action taken when they witnessed a young girl falling into Wind Ridge Pointe Lake. Archer and Seigrist jumped into the frigid waters and pulled her to safety. When asked about his part in the deed, Kevin Archer said, ” I just did what anyone else would do.” In other action, the commission approved the renewal of the city’s insurance with Employers Mutual through Al Shank Insurance of Liberal for 2009-2010, at a premium savings of $50,463 to the city. Commissioners also approved the final reading of Ordinance 4371, which establishes a system for the issuance of general business licenses within the city. This will not go into effect until January of 2010, but businesses can apply early. Cost for a business license will be $5.00. In other action the commission also set a Hearing date for the condemnation of 635 S. Pennsylvannia for April 21st, and tabled Willow Tree Golf Course request for a new greens mower, until staff had a chance to look into the costs of repairing the old one, which is 12 years old. The next meeting of the Liberal City Commission is set for March 24.
