Wheat Condition Improving

KSCB News - June 2, 2010 12:00 am

The Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service

says warmer weather has spurred the state’s winter wheat progress.

In its weekly update released Tuesday, the agency said about 94

percent of the winter wheat has headed and about 9 percent has

turned color.

Wheat condition is better than a week ago, with the latest

report rating 10 percent of the crop in excellent and 49 percent in

good condition. Thirty-one percent was pegged as fair with 10

percent rated poor to very poor.

The agency also reported that farmers have planted 96 percent of

this season’s corn crop and 23 percent of the sorghum. About 53

percent of the state’s soybeans also have been planted.
