Kansas Wheat Harvest Readies

KSCB News - May 28, 2010 12:00 am

Kansas farmers are gearing up for the 2010

wheat harvest as the crop nears maturity in southern sections of

the state.

The Kiowa area in Barber County is traditionally the first area

in the state to begin harvest. The trade group Kansas Wheat says it

is likely that this year will be no exception. Warm, windy days

have hastened the maturity of a crop that so far looks free of

disease.

Kiowa farmer Bob Schrock says he expects the harvest to begin

there around June 9.
