Okla. House Votes To Override Abortion Veto

KSCB News - May 25, 2010 12:00 am

The Oklahoma House has voted to override

the governor’s veto of a bill requiring women and their doctors to

complete a lengthy questionnaire before an abortion.

With no debate, the House voted 84-13 on Monday to override Gov.

Brad Henry’s veto. An override likely will face stiffer opposition

in the Senate, where 32 votes are needed for a veto override. The

bill passed the Senate 32-11 earlier this year.

The bill would require women to complete a form that contains

questions about their race, education, pregnancy history,

relationships and reasons for getting an abortion.

Henry said the bill was a “barrier to legal medical

treatment.”

It is the third abortion bill Henry has vetoed this year. The

other two were overridden by the Republican-controlled Legislature.
