Immigration Rally Planned In Garden City

KSCB News - May 7, 2010 12:00 am

Organizers of an immigration rally in

Garden City say they want to teach Hispanic and Latino communities

that they have rights.

Kansas United Corp., a Wichita-based nonprofit group, says it

expects about 3,000 people to attend Saturday’s rally.

Eva Barraza, a Kansas United board member, says the rally is in

response to a law passed in Arizona, which requires police to ask

people about their immigration status if there is a suspicion that

they’re illegal immigrants.

Barraza said minority communities in southwest Kansas are

already concerned that state lawmakers might consider implementing

a similar law in the future.

People from Dodge City, Scott City and several other southwest

communities are expected to attend the rally.
