Hanston/Jetmore School Districts To Merge

KSCB News - May 5, 2010 12:00 am

A southwest Kansas school district is

closing its two schools and sending students 11 miles away to a

neighboring district next year.

The boards of the Hanston and Jetmore districts approved the

merger last week. They planned to discuss details of the agreement

Wednesday night at a meeting in Jetmore.

Hanston has about 70 students who will be making the move.

Hanston superintendent Dan Binder says the district doesn’t have

many teachers, and they’ll be considered for jobs in Jetmore.

The new district will be known as the Hodgeman County School

District.

The Hanston school board will

try to find new uses for the community’s two school buildings. Some

of the rooms in a building constructed in 1954 already are being

leased to businesses.
