Liberal Wins WAC Tennis Title

The Liberal Redskin Boys Tennis Team defended its title winning the Western Athletic Conference for the third straight year. With three 1st Place medals, one 3rd Place medal, Coach of the Year, and Player of the Year medals, the Redskins finished their season in grand fashion. Liberal took team honors with 14 points followed by Dodge City with 12, Garden City with 9, Hays with 3, and Great Bend finishing with 1 point.

Individual results:

# 1 Single Duc Nguyen went 4-0 finishing 1st Place. He defeated Hay Taylor Ermoian 8-2, defeated Garden Cit s Andy Larkin 8-4, defeated Dodge Cit s Alex Jenker 8-6, then defeated Great Ben s Nick Moyer 8-2 to take 1st Place. Coaches also voted Duc Nguyen Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year.

#2 Single Vince Nguyen went 4-0 finishing 1st Place. He defeated Hay Michael Sterling 8-0, defeated Garden Cit s Blake Stucky 8-4, defeated Dodge Cit s Zak Nicholes 8-0, then defeated Great Ben s Israel Mendoza 8-1 to finish 1st Place. Vince Nguyen also received votes for player of the year.

#1 Double Josh Hamilton & Hai Vo went 2-2 on the day finishing 3rd Place. They lost to Garden Cit s Riggs/Clarke 5-8, lost to Dodge Cit s Neidhart/Hutchcraft 3-8, then bounced back to defeat Hay McClung/McClung 8-6, they finished with a win over Great Ben s Bosch/Rodriguez 8-4 to finish 3rd Place.

#2 Double Antonio Rodriguez & Larcyn Carter went 4-0 finishing 1st Place. They defeated Hay Beougher/Glassman 8-0, defeated Garden Cit s McMillan/Fisher 8-7 (7-4 tie breaker), defeated Dodge Cit s Salem/Woods 8-5, then defeated Great Ben s Jacobs/Neeland 8-0 to finish 1st Place.

#3 Single Drew Wills went 1-3 on the day. He lost to Garden Cit s Brennan Keller 2-8, lost to Dodge Cit s Tanner Miller 5-8, lost to Great Ben s Ramon Garcia, then defeated Hay Max Haverfeild 8-5.
