Police Investigate Sunday Morning Stabbing

On Sunday, April 11th, at about 2:00 a.m., a Liberal Police Officer was on patrol at Pershing Avenue and Pancake Avenue when she observed a large group of males fighting at Lov s Country Store, 188 West Pancake. Upon entering the parking lot, the group began to scatter.

A twenty year old Seward County basketball player Marquell Nolen from Wichita approached the officer saying he was stabbed. While the officer was attempting to secure the area, he left the scene and was transported to Southwest Medical Center by a private vehicle. He was treated for a single stab wound to the abdomen. His condition is stable.

This incident is still under investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Liberal Police Department at 626-0150 or the Crime Hotline at 624-4000. Persons providing information leading to the arrest of those responsible are eligible for a reward.
