New Political Group Chooses Name

KSCB News - March 27, 2010 12:00 am

Liberal’s newest political group who has been meeting since October in a town hall type format voted on a name for their group during Thursday’s meeting. The group made nominations for name ideas during the last two meetings that were put on a ballot. The group chose “We the People” to be their official group name by one vote. In second was “Tri-Corner Society.”

Thursday’s meeting included Congressional candidate Sue Boldra who spoke and then took questions. The group was very receptive to Boldra giving her an ovation and several members choosing to donate to her campaign.

Crystal Clemens who is doing a class project on creating community goals for a course she is taking was also there to challenge the group to start collaborating on trying to create some goals for the community. Clemens said she feels like Liberal is at a standstill right now and that nothing is being done to move forward. The group embraced Clemens and came up with several different ideas of how they could accomplish something.

County Commissioner Jim Rice added that the successful hospital bond project started with just a handful of people, and that “We the People,” which averages over twenty per meeting should have no problem being able to make a difference.

Rice also made the announcement that the Kansas Independent Caucus which most of the group is also a part of online has endorsed Todd Tiahrt for U.S. Senate. The I-Caucus does extensive interviews with any candidate who is willing and then makes an endorsement in each race.

“We the People” will next meet in April.
