Liberal Police Arrest 4 In Car Jacking

The Liberal Police Department has arrested four men in connection with the reported car-jacking of a man in January. Police arrested Jose Mauricio Gil, 24 of Dodge City, Bobby Stensland, 19 of Dodge City, Juan Garza, 27 of Garden City, and Matthew Perez, 27 of Garden City. The men were arrested between January 29th and March 1st.

On Sunday, January 10, at about 8:20 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of South Virginia for a reported car-jacking. Responding officers located the victim, a 34 year old male, at the 500 block of East Oak with two passersby. The victim was found on the ground because he is a paraplegic and he was without his wheelchair.

The victim told investigating officers that he was at the taco stand in the 400 block of South Kansas Avenue about an hour earlier. Two Hispanic males, with bandanas covering their faces got out of a large black SUV and got into his red, 2001 Chevy Blazer. The men ordered him to drive while they held him at gunpoint. The victim was directed to a field in the 500 block of East Oak where the men pushed him out of the vehicle and drove away. The victim had to crawl back through the field to the roadway to summon help.

The victi s vehicle was recovered in Finney County on January 11th.

Preliminary hearings have not been set at this time. Each of the suspects arrested in this case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
