Garden City Goes Off on Redskins

Brock Kappelmann - January 11, 2023 7:25 am

The Liberal Redskins played a better offensive game after scoring in the 30’s in the past two.  But this time they couldn’t stop their opponent as the Garden City Buffaloes beat the Liberal Redskins 86-59 Tuesday night at the Garden in Garden City.

The Buffaloes bolted ahead 25-9 after one quarter.  The Redskins rallied in the second quarter and cut the lead to 31-21 with 4:28 to play in the half.  Liberal cut the lead to eight and 33-25.  Garden City recovered to lead 43-30 at halftime.  The Redskins scored the first four of the second half to come to within 43-34 forcing a GCHS timeout.  But Garden went on runs of 9-2, 16-4, and 26-10 to take leads of 52-36, 59-38, and 69-44 after three.

Garden City shot 65 percent and made 8-13 from three point range.

Zayden Martinez led the Redskins with 24 points.  Brooks Kappelmann had 14 points and eight rebounds.   James Fieser scored 14.  Garden City’s Jace Steinmets scored 31.

Liberal falls to 2-5 overall with a fourth straight loss.  Garden City is 9-0.  LHS is 0-2 in the WAC and GCHS is 2-0.  The Redskins play at Dodge City Friday night at about 7:45 on 1270 and 92.3.  The Redskins will be featured during the Southern Pioneer Electric Rowdy Crowd Show Thursday night at 5:30 on 1270 and 92.3 at Billy’s Ayr Lanes.
