Garden Out-guns Saints

KSCB News - February 25, 2010 12:00 am

It must have been a long and cold 60 mile drive from Liberal to Garden City January 27. Garden City lost another basketball game to Seward (78-73) dropping the Broncbusters to 1-6 in the Jayhawk West at the time. The headlines could have read ‘From First to Worst’ after Garden won the region last year. But the Busters have turned their fortunes, and after an 85-82 win over Seward (21-8, 10-5) Wednesday night at the Perryman Center in Garden City, the Busters have won six of their last eight and are in a four way tie for fourth in the Jayhawk West. Garden led the Saints by 10 (64-54) in the second half. Seward jumped to a 19-11 lead early on and trailed 46-44 at halftime. Seward head coach Bryan Zollinger says Garden City came up with big plays when they needed them. “We forced them into several misses but in key situations we were unable to get the rebound,” Zollinger said. Several of those Garden offensive rebounds led to three point plays. Seward also went 31-44 at the foul line. Seward is assured of third place in the Jayhawk West and will host Kansas City Tuesday night at 8 PM. Seward hosts first place Butler Saturday night at 8 PM on B107.5 and kscbnews.net.
