Kan. Farmers Have Less Money Despite Record Crops

KSCB News - February 23, 2010 12:00 am

The Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service reported Monday that despite record or near-record fall production, lower prices dropped the value of the 2009 crop 3% from the previous year.

The agency pegged the total Kansas crop value at $6.9 billion.

Average prices were down dramatically for wheat, as well as other major Kansas crops like corn, soybeans and hay. The only crop to post a slight increase was sorghum.

The value of the 2009 Kansas corn crop was estimated at $2.15 billion. The wheat crop was valued at $1.79 billion, with soybeans valued at $1.48 billion.
