Miss Liberal will be Crowned on Valentine’s Day

Sunday, a new Miss Liberal will be crowned. Elizabeth Rohloff’s reign as Miss Liberal ends Sunday when a young lady will announced winner of the pageant. This year’s contestants are Kayla Varnes, Valerie Rito, Barbara Naegle, Shenice Morton, Elisabeth Kerbow, Lydia Young, Emily Jackson, Kelsi Moree, and Jordan Eder. The pageant’s 13 year executive director Lou Haynes says it isn’t just a beauty pageant. “The pageant is about service to others,” Haynes said. “It’s about scholarship. It’s about style. It’s about service to others. It’s about different areas that make you a stronger woman and to be a leader.” The pageant is open to women between the ages of 17-24. The contestants must present good morals, be single, never married divorced or pregnant and be a Seward Count resident for at least six months. The pageant begins Sunday at 2 PM in Maskus Auditorium at Liberal High School. Tickets are available at First National Bank and Rick’s Hair Design for seven dollars or eight dollars at the door Sunday.
