Zelma Elizabeth (Gilbert) Kossuth

Joe Denoyer - May 20, 2022 5:56 pm

Zelma Elizabeth (Gilbert) Kossuth passed away peacefully from this life on May 18, 2022, in Hugoton, Kansas. She was born January 2nd, 1925, to Harry “Jack” and Kathryn Mae Gilbert in Liberal, Kansas.

Zelma was raised on the Family farm North of Moscow, Kansas where she lovingly tended to her duties milking the cows and riding her horse “Ole Red” to the country school. She loved being on the farm.
She met and married John Kossuth Sr. on July 23rd of 1944, and they had two children: John Kossuth Jr. and Kathryn Kossuth. They were married for 49 years until John passed away in 1993.

Zelma truly loved hosting “Happy Hour” and hearing all the goings-on in her family and friends’ lives. She would sit listening patiently with a smile and a laugh. She spent afternoons reading and sitting on her patio listening to birds and soaking up the sunshine. She always had a way of finding the Brightside of any situation. Sometimes, when the situation called for it, you might get to witness her utter “Well now, HEY!” And that truly meant something big had occurred.

Zelma is survived by her son, John Kossuth Jr. and partner Carolyn Bailey, Ottawa, KS.; daughter, Kathryn (Kay) McLain and husband David “Dave” McLain of Hugoton, KS.; grandchild, Edward McLain; five great-grandchildren, William McLain and wife Chewy, Michael McLain and wife Amy, Skylar McLain and partner Jandelyn, Scarlette Wagner and husband Reese, and Shiah McLain; six great-great-grandchildren, Maggie, Liam, Reid, Conner, David “Davey” and Riverton. Along with many loving nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband John Kossuth, brother Ralph Gilbert and wife Mary Lou; grandsons, Jason, Kevin, John-John, and Jeffery.

A memorial has been established for Pheasant Heaven Charities. In the care of Robson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 236, Hugoton, Kansas 67951.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 20, 2022, from 6 to 8 PM, at Robson Funeral Home, Hugoton with family present from 7 to 8 PM.
