Liberal Firefighter Battle Residential Fire

At 12:46 pm Monday the Liberal Fire Department was dispatched to 1500 E Bluebell Road #327 for a report of a fully engulfed mobile home.

The first arriving fire and law enforcement officers encountered a mobile home with fire venting from one window and smoke issuing from all the eaves of the residence. The residence was reported to be unoccupied, but the possibility of one family pet inside.

Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the bulk of the fire from the rear door and accessed the interior via the front door to extinguish the remainder of the fire and search for the reported missing pet. The fire was declared under control at 1:07 pm. Upon arrival of the owner firefighters were able to confirm that the residence was indeed empty and that the pet was in a different location.

The entire residence suffered extensive fire smoke & heat damage. Firefighters remained on-scene until 2:22 pm extinguishing smoldering areas and investigating the origin and cause of the fire. The fire is believed to be accidental in nature and to have originated in the area of the furnace. The residence is a total loss.

Liberal Fire responded with a total of 12 personnel, two engines and three support and chief officer vehicles. Agencies also assisting at the scene were the Liberal / Seward County Communications Center, Liberal Police Department, Black Hills Energy, Southern Pioneer Electric & Liberal Water Department
