Most of Kansas Sees decline in Population

Joe Denoyer - August 12, 2021 5:14 pm

New census figures show that most Kansas counties lost residents over the past 10 years as the state’s population concentrated more in more populous places including the Kansas City area. Data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s once-a-decade count of the nation’s population was released Thursday and showed that 80 of the state’s 105 counties declined in population since 2010. Sixteen of them saw a decrease greater than 10%. Meanwhile, five of the 10 fastest-growing counties were in or close to the Kansas City area. The fastest growing county was Pottawatomie County, thanks to a piece of the city of Manhattan with booming retail development.
