Shane Devon Waters

Joe Denoyer - March 27, 2021 8:46 am

Shane Devon Waters, age 57, died in a vehicle accident the morning of March 24.

Shane was born in Meade January 29, 1964, to Ted and Dana (Poteet) Waters.  He and his younger brother JA grew up at Missler and in the Wilburn neighborhood of Fowler.  In high school, Shane was active in sports and excelled academically.  He graduated with the Fowler class of ‘82 and attended Fort Hays State and Kansas State University before returning home to Fowler to farm.

On October 17, 1987, Shane married Melissa St. Lawrence.  They made their home, along with Melissa’s sons Garrett (5) and Chase (3), in the Wilburn neighborhood of Fowler.  In May their daughter Maggie was born, followed by son Dalton in 1994.

Shane was an integral part of the Fowler community.  He was a member of the Fowler Equity Board and the Fowler United Methodist Church, as well as an inactive member of the Minneola Masonic Lodge.

He enjoyed fishing, watching wild life, reading, caring for his animals, and playing with his grandson Shepard and granddaughter Jaelynn.  Shane was a happy guy who enjoyed passing time with his many friends.  Those who knew Shane remember his quick wit and his laugh.  They remember him as a kind and generous person—a good man.

Shane is survived by his wife Melissa Waters, daughter Maggie Waters of Fowler, son Dalton of Dodge City, sons Garrett Weber of Minneola and Chase Weber of Hoyt, his parents Ted and Dana Waters of Fowler, his brother JA Waters and wife JoBeth of Meade, grandchildren Jaelynn (Garrett), Shepard (Maggie), Ava and Harper (Chase), and 10 nieces and nephews. Shane was preceded in death by his grandparents Georgia Waters and Harold Poteet.

A memorial service for Shane will take place Tuesday, March 30 at 11:00 at the Fowler United Methodist Church.  The family would welcome memorials to the college fund of Shepard Waters in care of Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.
