Fire Causes Evacuation of Trailer Park

Joe Denoyer - March 3, 2021 7:15 pm

On Wednesday March 3rd at approximately 3:06pm Seward County Fire Department was dispatched to a wildland fire on Road I, South of Road 20. Units arrived on scene to find approximately 75 acres with rapid fire growth in natural vegetation. The fire was threatening the trailer park community, and the residents were evacuated. With assistance from Green Plains Feeders employees, local farmer with tractor and disc, and Haskell County Fire Department the fire was able to be contained. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental in nature from some hot work being preformed. No injuries or damage was reported. The evacuation order was lifted. The department responded with 2 water tenders, 3 engines, 4 attack trucks, 2 chief officers, and 10 firefighters. Seward County Sheriff’s Depart assisted.

The department would like to remind everyone the rural areas are extremely dry and overgrown. The risk for wildfires is high in Seward County. We ask all rural residents to be #firewise in the months ahead.
