Grass Fires Keep SCFD Busy Saturday

Joe Denoyer - February 28, 2021 1:19 am

On Saturday February 27 at 3:04 pm Seward County Fire Department responded to a mutual aid request for a vegetation fire on Hwy 54 just West of the Hobo Truck Stop. Units arrived on scene to find Texas County Firefighters working to contain fire on both sides of hwy 54. Hwy 54 was shut down for a time for smoke across the roadway. The fire was contained and Seward County was released by Texas County. The department responded with 2 Chief Officers, Attack Truck, a Water Tender, and 3 firefighters.

At 7:55pm Seward County Fire Department was dispatched to a vegetation fire on Road 16 in Northern Seward County. Units arrived on scene to find approximately six acres well involved, the fire jumped Road 16 and was threatening a residential structure. The threat was eliminated and units contained the rest of the vegetation fire. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was downed power line. The department responded with 3 water tenders, 3 engines, 2 attack trucks, 1 chief officer, and 10 firefighters. We would like to remind rural residents to prepare for the dangers of wildfires, and continue to be #firewise in the months to come as we enter wildfire season.
