Random COVID Testing Starts at SCCC, Results are Good

LIBERAL – It continues to be good news for Seward County Community College on the COVID-19 front.Randomized testing at the college started last week and of the 21 participants, which includes students and team members, all the results were negative.

This follows the testing of dorm students and student-athletes during the first two weeks of the spring semester. Of the 148 students who were tested, only one was positive.

In addition to reporting the testing numbers, SCCC is also keeping track of self-reported cases by students and SCCC team members.

Through support from the Seward County Health Department, the college will continue to test on a weekly, randomized basis throughout the rest of the semester. It will be conducted among the general student population including student-athletes and dorm residents. Students who are taking all their classes via remote learning will be exempt from the testing.

Random testing is extremely important because it will allow the college to track the positivity rate of individuals who are asymptomatic, showing no symptoms.
