Rolland Keith Wiens

Joe Denoyer - December 19, 2020 10:30 am

Rolland Keith Wiens (Rolly) went to the arms of his Heavenly Father on December 17, 2020 in Meade, KS because of the COVID virus.

Rolly was born in a rural farmhouse south of Meade on May 23, 1939, (the same farmhouse where he and his wife, Marge, raised their family and where his grandson and wife, Bradon and Rachael Wiens, now are raising their family).

God reached out to Rolly when he was a teenager at a church service at EMB Church, where he fully understood he was a sinner and repented of his sin. He believed it was Jesus’ shedding of blood on the cross that paid the penalty of his sin. That evening he committed his life to follow Christ.

Rolly served faithfully at the EMB Church, which is now Countryside Bible Church, as Sunday school teacher, choir director, Elder, and various other positions. He and Marge very seldom said no when asked to serve in the church. They also hosted many church families and missionary families in their home for meals, fellowship, and encouragement.

Rolly was a farmer and rancher, water well driller, agronomist, welder, mechanic, veterinarian, plumber, teacher, and musician. He loved tilling the soil and planting and harvesting wheat, but what he enjoyed most on the farm was getting that first load of high-risk calves in the fall and doctoring them to good health.

Music wove its way into Rolly’s day with a song or a whistle to praise his Lord.  He traveled with the Mennonite Men’s Chorus and sang in the local men’s quartet.  He loved music and you could find him singing duets with Marge, imitating the birds and making sure to bring the love of music into the lives of his family.

Rolly was always busy doing something whether working on the farm, serving in the church, or attending one of his grandkids’ sporting events. He taught his children to work hard, love music and serve our Lord with all their hearts. He also taught them commitment, contentment, and to love their spouses.

Rolly persevered through many difficult things: being an eyewitness to his father’s tragic death at age 10, struggling as a young farmer, going through multiple health issues, poor eyesight, watching the death of his bride in 2014, and losing his drivers license 3 years later due to poor health. Through all this, he persevered with a positive attitude, and demonstrated a commitment to his faith and to his belief in a loving, sovereign God. He will be dearly missed by many friends and family.

He is preceded in death by wife, Marge Wiens; his parents, Kornelius and Agatha Wiens; brother, Peter Wiens; sisters, Lydia Classen, Martha Groening, Hilda Friesen and several nieces and nephews.  He is survived by his brother, Waldo Wiens; his daughter Michelle (Lloyd) Reimer (Farmington Arkansas), son Jerome (Anita) Wiens (Meade Kansas) and daughter Jennifer (Kyle) Bond (Crete Nebraska).  Eleven grandchildren and 12+ great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, December 20, 2020, at the Countryside Bible Church Cemetery.  Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 21, 2020, at the Countryside Bible Church.  Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Saturday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.
