Oklahoman to lead National Parent Teacher Association

Steven Rains - July 14, 2019 11:08 am

An Oklahoma City businesswoman will lead the nation’s largest child advocacy group.

The Oklahoman reports Anna King has been elected president of the National Parent Teacher Association for a term starting in 2021.

King co-owns a mobile catering business and has served as president of the Oklahoma PTA, Oklahoma City PTA Council, Douglass Mid-High School PTSA and in several executive positions at the national level. She’s the first national president from Oklahoma since Pat Henry, who served from 1991 to 1993.

King has three children and says it takes everybody for schools to be successful.

Beyond PTA, parents have grown increasingly politically active in pushing for better education funding following 2018 teacher protests at the Oklahoma Capitol.
