Record Corn And Soybean Crops Predicted

A new government report is predicting

record crops of corn and soybeans in Kansas this harvest. Sorghum

yields may set a record as well.

Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service reported Friday that corn

production is expected to total 561.2 million bushels. That is 8

percent more than had been forecast last month and 15 percent more

than last year’s crop.

Another record is forecast for Kansas soybean production. That

crop is predicted to be 146 million bushels, a 21 percent increase

over last year.

Grain sorghum is not setting any production records because its

planted acreage is down. But its growers are still hauling in

record yields of 83 bushels per acre. The agency forecasts the

state will harvest 207.5 million bushels of sorghum.
