Get a Taste of Kansas at SCCC

Joe Denoyer - January 28, 2019 4:24 pm

Did you ever wonder what is Kansas food? The answer may surprise you.

Find out when Seward County Community College holds its free, “Taste of Kansas” pot-luck from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29 at the library in the Hobble Academic Building. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The event is being held on Kansas Day which celebrates the day that Kansas was officially admitted into the Union in 1861.

The idea to combine the SCCC event with Kansas Day was to show not only the diversity of the college, but of Kansas as well.

“And what better way to do it than through food,” said Annette Hackbarth-Onson, SCCC dean of students. “Food brings everyone together. We wanted to show the diversity of our students, the community and Kansas, in general.”

Hackbarth-Onson stressed that it was more than just a “pot-luck,” but an opportunity for the people sampling the different foods to understand and embrace diversity and different cultures.

The food items, which are all homemade from students, faculty and staff, will range from Kansas favorites to Mexican cuisine along with International delicacies and include bierocks, chicken and noodles, fried rice, samosas, macaroni and cheese, gorditas and much more.
