Liberal City Commission Meets, Approves IRB’s For Hotel and Conference Center

The Liberal City Commission met Tuesday evening and with the Fairfield Inn and Conference Center nearing completion, the Commission approved finalizing the Industrial Revenue Bonds in the amount of $7,895,430.

The Commissioners also approved an update on the projects in North Liberal, approved Firefighter Training in Liberal, and approved to redo some electrical work at Arkalon Park.

City Commissioners approved ball field improvements not to exceed $20,000 for dugouts, $30,404 for scoreboards, and approved the acceptance and expenditure of an anonymous donation of $2690 for ball equipment.

Mickey Durbin was appoointed to the Liberal Housing Authority Board, and the Commission approved the contract with Earles Engineering for the work at the Highway 54 and Clay Street intersection.

The Water Department will soon be getting a new home as the Commission approved the purchase of the old Schlumberger building on east Pine Street in the amount of $560,000, and the Air Museum will be getting a new roof in the amount of $194,850 utilizing the $50,000 grant donation from the Mid America Air Museum Foundation and $144,850 from the Tourism Department.

Several vehicle and environmental abatements were also approved by the Commission.
