Meade Growers Place First in the Nation

KSCB News - November 28, 2017 8:14 pm

For the second year in a row, Meade County growers achieved national recognition for their wheat yields.

Brandon Friesen achieved a yield of 115.26 bushels per acre, earning first place nationally in the Winter Wheat – Dryland category with WestBred variety WB-GRAINFIELD. His winning yield earned him a trip to the 2018 Commodity Classic.

Tyler Ediger with Ediger AG – the supplier of Brandon’s winning variety – also placed in the contest with a yield of 110.98 bushels per acre, earning second place in Kansas in the Winter Wheat-Dryland category with WestBred variety WB4303. The Edigers are no strangers to the National Wheat Yield Contest. Last year, Ediger AG supplied the winning wheat seed for the first-place national winner in the Winter Wheat – Irrigated category, and Tyler’s father, Darwin, placed at the state level as well.

With a combination of innovative techniques, access to advanced seed varieties and cutting-edge growing practices suited for Kansas fields, Brandon and Tyler were able to produce winning yields
