Liberal City Commission Meets, Approves City Manager Contract

The Liberal City Commission met Tuesday evening for their regularly scheduled meeting and at the end of the meeting held an Executive Session for the purpose of the Annual City Managers evaluation. After the Commission met for 10 minutes, they came out of Executive Session, then went back in to Executive Session for another 10 minutes, this time with the City Manager present. When the Commissioners came out of the second Executive Session, the Commission voted to give the City Manager a 3% raise and increase the severance portion of his contract to 2 years. The previous City Manager had a 5 year severance package.

In earlier action items, the Commission approved the purchase of an air conditioning unit for the Police Department from Weber Refrigeration in the amount of $9,900.00, approved software upgrades for the Air Museum for $3,313.00, a storage shed and chip timer for the Recreation Department and a Standby Aircraft Firefighting Vehicle with the cost not to exceed $80,113.00 with the money  to come from the Airport Land Sales Fund.

The City Commission approved the 2018 Southwest Kansas Coalition Legislative Policy, and Golf cart rental fleet for the Golf Course. These units will be gas powered.

Utilizing FEMA funds from the Equipment Reserves, the Commissioners approved the purchase of 5 new trailers from Hills Truck Equipment and the repair of others damaged during the ice storms, and approved the purchase of 2 Skid Steer Loaders. These will come from Foley Caterpillar.
