Turpin Elementary School Closed Due to Fire

Joe Denoyer - August 11, 2017 8:22 am

Turpin Schools were closed on Friday due to a fire in one of the classrooms.  According to Keith Custer, Turpin School Superintendent, the fire was discovered by one of the custodians who reported to work at 5:00am. Upon arrival, he smelled smoke in the building, located the source, then notified the Turpin Fire Department and the administration at Turpin School. Early determinations have found the that the fire appears to have started in a cabinet in a classroom where Ipads are stored. The fire burnt up part of the wall and there was extensive smoke in the classroom. The Fire Department removed part of the wall checking for additional hot spots. The State Fire Marshall and the Insurance Company has been called in to try and determine the cause of the fire which is under investigation.
