Heavy Rain Causes Flooding in Liberal

Brock Kappelmann - August 11, 2017 6:28 am

Kansas Avenue in downtown Liberal looked like a flowing river overnight last night. Many of Liberal’s city streets were flooded after about 5 inches or more of rain pounded Liberal Thursday.  The first storm hit about noon but the major precipitation came Thursday night. Liberal had 1.27 inches from the afternoon storm and 4.80 inches overnight.  That places Liberal over six inches of rain.  Liberal fire department was out rescuing motorists last night who were caught in high waters. Heavy rain hit Liberal but severe weather struck other parts of the listening area. Poles were snapped in Stanton County from up to 65 mile per hour winds. And the national weather service reported tennis ball size hail in Stanton and Morton Counties.
