With Brenneman’s Resignation, SCCC Trustee Spot Open

Joe Denoyer - February 10, 2017 10:13 am

The six-member Seward County Community College Board of Trustees shrank to five once again, with the resignation of trustee Rick Brenneman at Monday’s meeting.

“Rick handed me his letter of resignation this evening,” said chair Ron Oliver, reading from the document. “He states, ‘Mellissa and I have decided to sell our business and move to Louisburg, Kansas,’ and he’s resigning at this meeting.”

Marvin Chance moved to accept Brenneman’s resignation “regretfully,” and was seconded by John Engel. The motion passed 6-0. Brenneman, who was appointed to fill JoAnn Sharp’s unexpired term in 2010, went on to run for election, and was approved for a second term by voters in 2015.

The board has opened applications for an appointed trustee to fill Brenneman’s term.

“We’re going to miss Rick, but we have to keep moving forward,” said Oliver. “We’d like to get someone in here for our next meeting, which is March 6.”

Official notification of the opening on the board will appear in the weekend edition of SCCC’s official paper of legal publication, the High Plains Daily Leader. The board will accept applications, which must arrive in the office of Dr. Ken Trzaska, college president and clerk of the board of trustees, by Feb. 28. Interviews will occur between that date and the March 6 board meeting, with the apointee sworn in prior to the meeting.

For more information about the position, contact the SCCC President’s office at 620-417-1101. Letters of inquiry may be submitted to Dr. Ken Trzaska, Clerk of the Board, SCCC Board of Trustees, P.O. Box 1137, Liberal, KS  67905-1137, or hand-delivered to the Hobble Administrative Building at 1801 N. Kansas Ave., Liberal.
